VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR AWARD
honors
MICHAEL GAMBUCCI
For Dedication, Commitment, Extraordinary Service & Outstanding Accomplishment
Region 108, in our third annual recognition, is delighted to announce Michael Gambucci as Volunteer of the Year. Mike first stepped up as a volunteer to coach his daughter Taylor’s team way back in 1992 - and we have the 90's mustache to prove it! He stuck with her team as a coach all the way to 16U. Meanwhile he coached his other two children as well and saw his youngest child JJ through to 14U, in addition to taking on various concurrent Board of Director roles. In fact, both Gambucci parents, as well as their daughter Ashton, all served on the board together. In keeping with the Gambucci spirit, Ashton found time to volunteer as one of the early youth referees, in addition to serving as the Board’s Secretary.
Mike’s kids may have aged out, but that didn’t stop him from coaching again the first chance he got when he lead his nephew’s team starting in 2015 to present. He also again resumed his service to the AYSO Board by rejoining as leader of the Division Coordinators where he continues to this day.
For these 27 years of service and dedication to our community, thank you Michael Gambucci! What’s Up Next for Mike? Well, his one-year-old grandson is a Belmont resident, so chances are you’ll continue to see Mike out on the pitch – and, according to his wife Allison, if it’s coaching
from a wheelchair, then so be it.
Read below to see what a few of his friends and colleagues say about him:
“There are people you have to tell. There are people you have to ask. There are people you have to coach. There are people you have to teach. Mike is one of those people whom you don’t have to tell, ask, coach or teach. He just does. AYSO is so happy and fortunate to have him on our team. Thank you, Mike!” – Zeljko Zivkovic, Regional Commissioner
“In his re-entry into volunteering as a coach, Mike came to me asking what else he might be able to do. He stepped into a very needed DC Mentor role and embraced it. Mike then volunteered to take over the Coach Admin role this season and as expected he has been awesome not only in that role but really doing anything and everything to make sure the kids and volunteers have what they need. Mike has been a very valuable and amazing. We are lucky to have him.” – Jaime Dal Porto, long-time fellow board member |
